Our Story
Omotepe is owned and run by the Emerald Coast Surf Collective which was started on the Emerald Coast of Nicaragua in 2007. Our members are a mix of locals and expats. The collective opened a surf shop and added a surf school in
2009. In 2012, we partnered with investors to purchase land near Popoyo beach to open Omotepe Eco Surf Resort. Omotepe started out as a surf camp, and slowly grew to become Nicaragua’s leading Eco Surf Resort.
Our Roots
The Emerald Coast Collective
Omotepe is not your average resort. We are an eco-resort commited to sustainability, conservation, and giving back to the local community. We believe in sustainable and equitable tourism that provides our guests with unique experiences and but also brings economic opportunity to the local community.
Our Commitments
At Omotepe, we are committed to sustainability, conservation and community development. We strive to provide a unique, low-key “eco chic” experience with a small ecological footprint. We are a collective that believes deeply in protecting our environment and providing economic opportunities for the local community. Omotepe supprots local Sea Turtle Conservation and Community Development initiataves.
Sustainbility
Our sustainability efforts include composting toilets, solar panels, and recycled and sustainable building materials. We use organic fertalizers and pest control, and 90% of the of the food we serve is from local farms.
Conservation
We partner with local conservation groups such as the Eastern Pacific Hawksbill Initiative (ICAPO) to help restore endangered sea turtle habitat, as well as other local environmental group efforts to conserve the local land and marine habitat.
Community Development
Omotepe partners with local farmers to provide the majority of the food we serve, as well as local businesses such as tour guides, spa and transportation services. We are also a sponsor of the local Community School Project, Empoderar a los niños.
Getting Here
International travelers will arrive at Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA) in Managua. From there, you may rent a car (which we highly suggest arranging in advance) or take the shuttle to Paso Real de Ochomogo, where you can arrange a pick up by the resort with advance notice. If you rent a car, take highway 61 until you see the sign to San Martin. Look for the Omotepe sign on KM 32 on the left.
